The company was founded by storage industry veterans in March 2004 to deliver solutions to the continuing demands for higher storage capacities and lower cost. The company is privately-held and located in Santa Clara, California. 

Storage media and sensor (head) technologies dictate the progress in peripheral storage devices in terms of areal density (the number of bits stored per unit area) growth and cost per Gigabyte of storage.  Since the establishment of the disk drive industry, almost 50 years ago, head and media technologies have evolved continually to enable a multi-million-fold increase in areal density.  Huge capital investments are made by storage OEMs to drive such progress.  The areal density in HDD devices continues to grow exponentially, doubling almost every 18 months.

Data recovery technologies play a crucial role in enabling areal density growth.  They determine how efficiently the available bandwidth and signal-to-noise (SNR) of the storage head/media is utilized.   They also address the other non-idealities of magnetic head/media or NAND media components that cause errors during data retrieval. 

Link_A_Media Devices offers a new class of data recovery solutions that far exceeds the performance of conventional methods deployed in peripheral storage devices.  Beyond enabling higher areal density, these solutions offer many new adaptive features that, when used during drive manufacturing to overcome the impairments of the magnetic head/media or NAND media, deliver improved drive robustness and higher manufacturing yields.
